The Business of Law – Views from the Law Firm Administrator’s Chair

About the seminar from the Vancouver Association of Law Libraries website:

This seminar provides an understanding of the business of law from the Administrator’s perspective.  It develops your capacity to think and act strategically in your library by focusing on the business models and latest trends and practices in law firm Administration and challenges facing Administrators in today’s economy.  The goal is to enable both new and experienced law library professionals to develop a working knowledge of the following areas and to be comfortable discussing financial and administrative decisions:

  • Strategic analysis: understanding what business you are in, analyzing the external and internal environment, identifying core financial and administrative concepts and day-to-day realities, value-added analysis
  • Anticipating the future and improving your competitive position: what factors most affect our industry, anticipating changes and future trends and capitalizing on their impact, defining goals and objectives, and analyzing and responding to competitive pressures

Mr. Waterman has over 35 years of experience managing law firms from all over Canada.
