Assistant
Michal recently joined Richards Buell Sutton LLP as an associate with the Commercial Real Estate and Corporate teams. As part of the Commercial Real Estate team, Michal negotiates and closes complex land development, lending and leasing deals with a variety of clients, including post-secondary institutions. As a member of the Corporate team, he assists public and private sector clients negotiate commercial transactions, enter into various strategic relationships, and address governance matters. Prior to his move to RBS, Michal had a similar practice at Clark Wilson LLP.
Michal attended the University of Alberta Faculty of Law for his first year, where he was on the Dean's List and was offered the Chief Justice S. Bruce Smith Award, signifying the highest standing of first year law students. Second year, he transferred to the University of British Columbia to complete his law degree in 2005 and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2006.
Michal enjoys public speaking and has appeared as a presenter on legal matters and on sustainable business practices at events hosted by the Vancouver Board of Trade, Business in Vancouver and at courses offered by Climate Smart.

Community
- Michal is an adjunct professor at the UBC Faculty of Law, co-teaching a course on solicitor's skills, Michal also mentors law students, and, when a little additional free time presents itself, Michal heads to Pacific Spirit Park, where he volunteers in weekend work parties that keep the park free of invasive species. Michal also supports the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and takes an active role in RBS's regular Food Bank volunteering sessions.
Background
Michal and his family immigrated to Canada in 1982, first living in Winnipeg, then moving to Saskatoon, and finally, following the promise of a warmer climate, to Vancouver. Back in his university days, Michal played bass guitar for a ska band, performing in various venues throughout the lower mainland and participating in a cross-Canada tour. Nowadays, Michal and his wife live in Vancouver and enjoy hiking in the summer, snowshoeing and snowboarding in the winter, and Crossfit at times in between.
