Michael A. Kale, Associate Counsel

Michael joined Richards Buell Sutton LLP in 2006 as Associate Counsel after running his own firm for 12 years. He is a senior corporate commercial solicitor who is a member of the Corporate, Intellectual Property and Wealth Preservation practice groups at RBS.

Representative Client Work

As part of the Corporate and Intellectual Property groups, Michael assists business clients and their owners in the planning and implementation of complex business transactions. He provides legal representation for clients when negotiating or structuring:

• Plans of arrangement
• Joint ventures and partnerships
• Franchising and licensing agreements
• Mergers and acquisitions
• Technology protection, transfers and licensing
• Legal risk management, corporate governance and compliance matters

As a member of the Wealth Preservation group, Michael assists business clients in structuring their affairs to ensure the client's personal and business objectives are met in the most efficient and effective manner whether it is with respect to:

• Legal risk management, and tax minimization strategies

Community

• Michael volunteers regularly with the firm at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. He is also a former pro bono counsel for Literacy BC. In addition to fund raising for Science World for four years, Michael was a former chair of their auction committee.

Background

Michael obtained his bachelors degree at UBC in Political Science and International Relations and is a self confessed current events junkie. He is an avid golfer, hiker and cyclist when his wife, two teenagers and cat allow for it. He is also an passionate oenophile and has an extensive library of books on wine.
