The Partners of Richards Buell Sutton have donated another $20,000 to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, bringing the total over the past three holiday seasons to $60,000 or $180,000 in food bank buying power.

The Georges A Goyer, QC Memorial Award for Distinguished Service is an annual Canadian Bar Association award presented to a respected member of the BC Branch. The recipient is recognized for their exceptional contributions to the legal profession in British Columbia.

As part of the 2011 RBC GranFondo Whistler, more than 7000 riders cycled the Sea to Sky Highway on a magnificent day in September. Before sunrise, 40 members from Richards Buell Sutton, BC's Oldest Law Firm, were on hand volunteering at the start line, cheering on their own team of cyclist and assisting where they could to make this year's ride an extraordinary event. Richards Buell Sutton LLP was the exclusive legal sponsor of the 2011 RBC GranFondo Whistler.

Today, the University of British Columbia opened the country's first new purpose-built university law school building in 30 years, a $56-million facility made possible by the largest private fundraising effort for a Canadian law school building. Richards Buell Sutton LLP contributed to the effort and were delighted to be on hand during the Opening Ceremonies and to get a closer look at the Reading Room named for the firm.

RBS Partner and Personal Injury Lawyer David Hay was quoted in The Province article "Bike-helmet law challenge an uphill climb" regarding the constitutional challenge facing a local vancouver rider's choice to wear a helmet or not.

David Hay is quoted in the August 12, 2011 article on CBC News online. As the debate about helmet law heats up in Vancouver, RBS partner David Hay "doesn't believe there is any judicial appetite to abolish the law."

Jeff Lowe is quoted in the July 12-18, 2011 issue of Business In Vancouver in the article "Firm longevity a bonus, not core asset". As the Managing Partner of BC's oldest law firm, Jeff has a unique viewpoint of the legal landscape in Vancouver. While history has helped to shape the culture of the firm and likely contributes to the attraction of legal talent, it is the day to day operations and relationships between staff and extended to clients that is the focus of the firm. 

John has joined the Firm's Wealth Preservation team and will focus his practice on Personal Estate Planning.

More than 1000 delegates participated in the BC Liberal Party convention in Penticton, where RBS Partner Sharon White was acclaimed the new BC Liberal Party President and Co-Chair of the Provincial Election Readiness Committee.
