Profile
Michael Shane is a Partner and the chair of the Real Estate Practice Group at Richards Buell Sutton LLP. His practice is primarily focussed on acting for banks, life insurance companies, credit unions, mortgage investment corporations and other lenders and borrowers in secured financing transactions.
Michael has practised exclusively at RBS. With over 25 years of experience he has conducted high end complex, commercial real estate financings involving:

• housing co-operatives,
• first nations' lands,
• securitized lending,
• private placements,
• social housing projects,
• seniors' congregate care and assisted living projects,
• real estate investment trusts,
• offshore trusts,
• long term leaseholds,
• pension funds,
• mezzanine lending,
• syndicated lending.
Michael is a legal lecturer, author and editor. He is also a member on numerous task forces on residential and commercial real estate matters including housing co-operatives, mortgage brokers legislation and regulations, environmental waste management matters and real estate fraud. Michael was a panel participant on The Financial Services Task Force of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy. This Round Table was mandated by the Parliament of Canada and reported directly to the Prime Minister on issues of importance to both the economy and the environment.

Professional/Business Affiliations
Director and legal counsel to the Mortgage Investment Association of British Columbia, a provincial mortgage lenders association formed in 1917 to represent mortgage lenders in their dealings with government and the public. The Association is comprised of over 200 corporate members including all chartered banks, trust companies, life insurance companies, mortgage investment companies, credit unions as well as mortgage insurers, appraisers, law firms, accountants, environmental consultants, and mortgage brokers.
